Saline County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Kansas man after he led police on a short chase through the county.

It started when deputies noticed the stolen Ford F350 around 1 p.m. Monday. They began following the vehicle.

The truck blew through a stop sign, then continued several miles to Gypsum Valley Road. The suspect cut into a field and drove off into a creek. Then, he ran away.

Deputies found him a short time later in a creek.

The driver has been identified as 29-year-old Steven Rule. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, Rule has an extensive criminal history, dating back to 2005. He has been convicted of burglary, theft, and fleeing and eluding in the past.

Rule was just released from prison two weeks ago.


Authorities are searching for a for a person in Saline County following a vehicle crash.

According to a tweet from Trooper Ben Garner, with the Kansas Highway Patrol, there was a crash at Country Club and Gypsum Valley and the driver left the scene of the accident.

KHP units and aircraft are assisting in the search.
