WICHITA, Kan. -

Groundbreaking for a new hangar that will house KC-46A tankers will begin in June.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at McConnell Air Fore Base at 11 a.m. June 30th. Construction will begin on a 2-bay corrosion control and fuel cell hangar, a 3-bay general maintenance hangar, a 1-bay general maintenance hangar and an aircraft parking apron.

Kansas lawmakers say the news will be an economic benefit for the Air Capital.

Carl Brewer, Wichita Mayor, said the next generation tankers are expected to bring a $619 million impact to the area.

The hangar construction contract was awarded to Archer Western Aviation Partners of Chicago, Illinois.
