Press Release from City of Wichita:

Construction of a new storm sewer drainage system will close Meridian beginning Thursday, March 6, for three weeks. Through traffic will detour to Southwest Boulevard at Harry and Pawnee streets. Local traffic on Meridian will be open to Esthner and May streets for access to residential areas. Access to area businesses will be maintained. Orient street will close at Meridian until completion of the project.

The project is providing drainage improvements for Meridian Avenue from Pawnee to McCormick Street. The construction will also allow future improvements to be made between Meridian and the Arkansas River. The $6.5 million project began in May 2013 with the target completion date for the entire project in spring 2014.

The Public Works & Utilities Department manages the City’s infrastructure and environmental compliance activities. This include maintenance of more than 5,000 lane miles of paved streets, inspections to ensure safe food and child care operations, water and sewer service, the Big Ditch, storm drainage, and dozens of municipal facilities.
