Wichita Police are searching for a second suspect in connection to a shooting death at a north Wichita apartment.

Eric Salazar, 23, was found suffering from a gunshot wound in the 1800 block of north Broadway Wednesday. He was taken to a hospital for treatment where he later died.

Officers arrested Manuel Rivas, 23, shortly after the shooting. Police believe he may be connected to Salazar's death. Rivas is being held in the Sedgwick County Detention Center on first-degree murder charges. He is expected to make a first appearance in court Friday.

Police said during a briefing Friday they want to question a 38-year-old man about his role in Salazar's death. Anyone with information in the crime is asked to call 911.

Wichita Police have identified the man who was shot and killed during a disturbance at an apartment building.

Emergency crews were called the 1800 block of N. Broadway around 12:15 a.m. Wednesday. Officers found Eric Salazar, 23, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries about three hours later.

Officers later located, questioned and arrested a 23-year-old male suspect in the 1400 block of north Otis. According to the Sedgwick County booking sheets, Manuel Rivas is being held for first-degree murder in connection to the shooting. He has yet to face formal charges.

Police said the victim was a documented gang member, but the shooting does not appear to be gang-related.

Police spent the night interviewing several eyewitnesses to determine what led up to the shooting. Capt. Brent Allred, Wichita Police, said an argument over a small amount of money led up to the shooting.

This is the city's 14th homicide of the year.
