A 75-year-old man is dead after a fire in Herington. Fire officials say the man was in an apartment above a business in the downtown area.

A patrol officer saw smoke coming from the apartment and called in fire crews at around 2:30 Monday morning.

The building houses a second-hand store and two apartments. One of the apartments was vacant, the man was found dead in the other apartment.

Fire officials tell us the business suffered water damage, while the apartment suffered heavy damage from both smoke and flames.

No word yet on a cause.
