WICHITA, Kan. -

A shoplifting suspect was caught kung fu fighting with nunchucks after a brief chase.

It happened in the 7900 block of East Kellogg Wednesday night.

Matt Reynolds, Ribbit Computer manager, witnessed the incident. He said he first noticed someone acting suspicious, then saw officers chase the man.

"Especially when all the cop cars started swarming, and they were speeding to get to him," Reynolds said. "It kind of made you wonder what he had done in the first place."

Police said the man was wanted for shoplifting at Von Maur at Towne East. He then ran across the road.

Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police, said an officer noticed someone who matched the description, then told the man to stop.

"At some point, the suspect turned around and pulled out a pair of nunchucks," Nolte said.

The officer tased the man, and arrested him. Jail records indicate Davon Everett is being held on charges of shoplifting, possession of illegal weapons and aggravated assault on a law officer.
