A man walked into a Salina jewelery store Monday evening, grabbed a ring and ran, according to police.
Police say it was a white male between the age of 40 and 50. He was wearing a blue hat, blue jeans and a jean jacket when he walked into Showcase Jewelers.
Employees say that he told them that he was going to propose to his girlfriend later in the day and need a ring. When they took the ring out of the case and put it on the counter he ran out.
"I feel that everyone acted or reacted the way they needed to," owner Tonya Montgomery said. "I don't think there was any way you would have stopped him. You can't think that everybody that comes in the store is going to rob you."
It was a 14K, white gold, solitaire ring valued at $5,000.
The shop owner says that she has called other jewelers and pawn shops in the area to make them aware of the situation.
There was surveillance video of the crime.
