DODGE CITY, Kan. -

Dodge City authorities are warning citizens and businesses about a scam involving someone posing as an officer.

In a release sent Friday, Chief Craig Mellecker said a local business received a call from man asking for money. The caller said he was an officer with the Dodge City Police Department.

The caller also asked for the business' credit card to make a donation for an add in the police or sheriff year book.

The Dodge City Police Department said the person is not associated with the agency, nor does it solicit money over the phone. Anyone with information in the case is asked to call police.
