The same day many Wichita workers in the aviation industry learned of layoffs, another aviation manufacturer is looking to fill hundreds of positions.
Spirit Aerosystems announced the company is hiring 250 positions in Wichita. Most include engineers and mechanics.
Jarrod Bartlett, Spirit spokesman, said the jobs will fill the company's workforce needs.

Textron Inc., the parent company for Cessna and Beechcraft, announced plans to cut 525 Kansas workers Wednesday. A spokeswoman for Airbus said some Wichita engineers will also be let go by the end of the year.
Last September, Spirit had sent layoff notices to 150 salaried and management workers. Some of those employees were asked to return to work in November.
