Some Spirit Aerosystems workers could be retiring early. The company tells us some employees were offered early retirement packages.
The company says the voluntary retirement program was offered to management and salaried employees both in Wichita and at its facility in Kinston, North Carolina. It applies to certain long-term employees who are over 55 and have at least ten years of service with the company.
Spirit has been working to cut costs after a tough year in 2013, when the company lost more than 200 million dollars. Things are looking better this year, the company even posted openings for more than 250 jobs back in April.
The company did not release any details on the retirement packages, saying it is sharing details internally with those who are eligible.
