HAYSVILLE, Kan. -

State Rep. Joe Edwards has died in his Haysville home, family members tell Eyewitness News.

Edwards, a Republican who served in the 93rd district, was 59 years old. Doyle Edwards, Joe's older brother, said the legislator died about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

"It's a big loss for the state of Kansas and Haysville," Doyle said.

Rep. Edwards' first term in office was in 2013. He served on the transportation and public safety, and veterans, military and homeland security committees.

Rep. Edwards lost to John Whitmer by 189 votes in the primary two weeks ago.
