HAMILTON COUNTY, Kan. -

A western Kansas man has been arrested accused of firing shots at a campsite over the Memorial Day weekend.

Emergency crews were called to the Syracuse Sand Dunes Park around 4:50 a.m. Sunday. The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said deputies found no victims from the shots fired call, and that the suspect had fled the area.

Officers arrested David Ramirez, 40, of Syracuse, shortly after responding to the scene. He has been booked on three counts of attempted first-degree murder, eight counts of criminal discharge of a firearm, and one count of criminal possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The case will be turned over to the Hamilton County district attorney's office for review.
