WICHITA, Kan. -

A caller to our Answerback line wonders about the timing of the state's new gun carry laws.

She's afraid that allowing people to openly carry or concealed carry guns in more places is dangerous with the 4th of July coming up.

The fact is that new laws in Kansas almost always take effect July 1.

Lawmakers didn't specifically plan for the gun rules to change prior to the holiday...it's just the way the timing works out.

Enjoy the holiday safely.
