WICHITA, Kan. -

A Wichita man, with good time credit, will spend 20 years behind bars.

David White, 27, was sentenced by Sedgwick County District Judge David Kaufman Thursday afternoon.

White was convicted of robbing an elderly man in the parking lot of Kingsborough Apartments in the 800 block of W. 26th St. S. on March 25, 2013.

The robbery ultimately led to the death of 73-year-old man, Byron Shipman. Shipman was held at gunpoint during the robbery, handing over his wallet and two rings including his wedding band. He later went home, telling his wife how upset and worried the robbery made him, fearing White may come to his house.

Police say Shipman was found dead at his residence about 6 hours later. He died of an aneurism caused by the stress of being robbed at gunpoint according to a medical examiner.

Other robbery charges are from an incident earlier in the same day in the 2500 block of East Lincoln. The victim of that robbery was able to get a partial license plate number, leading to White's arrest.
