Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Unlocked and stiffed…
A 27/m, who apparently works for a locksmith service, responded to a call in the 200 block of N. Washington because a woman was locked out of her car. He unlocked the car, but she took off without paying. He couldn’t get the tag number from her car because it was concealed.
An officer reports being punched several times in the face while he was in his squad car in the 200 block of S. Hillside. Police arrested the attacker. The officer started complaining of a sore neck a short time later, so he was checked out at a clinic. He just had some muscle fatigue and no other injuries, so he was returned to full duty. The report does not state what provoked the attack.
A 42/m says he met a woman and took her to his hotel room in the 1100 block of N. Broadway. He fell asleep after she left, but the door was left unlocked. He says when he woke up, some of his property - including his car - was gone. The woman showed back up and admitted she took the car. She said she would bring it back, but so far, no luck.
A 51/f says she advertised a wedding dress for sale on the internet. She received a message from someone interested in buying the dress. The person sent her a check for twice the amount she was asking for. She was told to just send the difference back when she shipped the dress. She took the check to the bank to have it verified. The check was legit, but it was believed to be signed by someone who was not authorized on the account. She kept the check and is not out any money.
A 25/f says she spoke with someone online about working for the next week. She received the paperwork and a check in the mail - the check was more than she was to be paid and she was told to just send the balance to another location. She checked with the bank. The check was fraudulent. She called police.
And more fraud…
A 36/m says someone has been stealing the rental signs from the yard of his property in the 2600 block of N. Charles. He also found that someone copied his online ad and reposted it to Craigslist at a lower price. A potential tenant contacted him and said that someone else had texted them about the property. He isn’t out any money right now, just the stolen signs. He’s worried someone will be scammed with his property.
Up to no good….
3:27 am (Saturday)
A 55/m reports seeing two people inside an enclosed area belonging to the City of Wichita. When police arrived, they found trash cans and trash strewn about. Police found two juveniles nearby and arrested them. A third juvenile was found and arrested later.
A 59/m says he let two people into his home and while they were drinking together, they took some things from his house - then stole his car.
A 24/f says someone threw a wine bottle at a window on her house in the 2000 block of W. Douglas. The glass in her double-paned window was shattered, but no one tried to get inside. She has no idea who did it.
The ol’ switch-a-roo…
A 23/f, who works loss prevention for a business in the 500 block of E. Pawnee, saw someone switching price tags from items that had lower prices. The person then tried to purchase the items at the lower price. The property was retained, the thief was arrested.
A 67/f says some neighbor children were riding bikes and playing in her driveway in the 5400 block of S. Sycamore. During this incident, one of the kids scratched her car. She wants restitution and she wants to press charges.
A 24/f says someone sold her a dog online...but had no intention of actually sending her a dog. She says she wired the money to the thieves before she realized it was a scam.
A man was arrested after admitting to pouring beer on his wife while she was holding their child. He was arrested.
Adult tricycle stolen…
A 75/f says someone stole her adult trike from her porch in the 700 block of N. Golden Hills. No witnesses.
Quite a party?
12:39 am (Sunday)
An eyewitness reports being at a birthday party supervised by someone who was very intoxicated and stated that he was mad at the eyewitness. He threw a folding chair at the guy, but it accidentally hit a seven-year-old girl. She suffered a large bruise to her forehead, but is okay. The man was arrested on child endangerment charges.
A 73/f reports her handgun is missing. She has no idea what happened to it.
A 22/f says she pulled up to an ATM at 13th and Meridian when another woman got out of her car and approached her at the ATM. She said her card was stuck and asked the woman to put her card in. She refused and drove off. The woman was still in her car when she left.
