Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Mailbox struck by a car…
Friday - 6:00 am
A 59/f in the 1800 block of W. 53rd N. says someone hit her mailbox with their car, then left. Police haven’t found the driver.

Stolen trash can…
Friday - 9:26 am
A 30/f in the 2500 block of S. Hydraulic says someone stole her trash can from outside her home. No idea who did it.

Pot found…
Friday - 10:27 am
An officer was checking on the welfare of an infant in the 800 block of S. Mission. The officer found marijuana in plain view on the living room table.

Simple phone call prevents “Grandson scam”…
Friday - 12:42 pm
An 83/f says someone called her claiming to be her grandson. He said he was arrested in the Dominican Republic and needed money. She contacted her actual grandson...who was fine. She didn’t send any money and reported the incident to police.

Not very neighborly...
Friday - 5:19 pm
A 27/f in the 600 block of S. Whittier says she came home and found her dog was not there. A neighbor told her the dog was scratching at his door and he took it and sold it to someone else. The woman has tried to contact the person who bought the dog to get it back, but they have not complied. The woman does want to prosecute...and she wants her dog returned.

Missed the animal, but not the utility pole…
Friday - 9:14 pm
A 40/f says she was headed west on Lincoln when she swerved to miss an animal in the road. She then struck a utility pole. Her car had to be towed away. She was not seriously hurt.

Brand new tires slashed…
Saturday - 9:28 am
A 27/m says someone slashed all four of his brand new mud tires at his home in the 2300 block of S. White Oak. He says he just replaced the tires because his old ones were worn out. He thinks it was his neighbor. He says he got into a dispute with his neighbor a few das before over a parking spot.

Pry bar left behind…
Saturday - 11:05 am
A 35/m in the 1100 block of N. Carlos says someone broke into his car and stole some of his property. The thief used a pry bar to get into the car. That pry bar was left behind. The man says his car was ransacked, but the only damage was to a cup holder which was broken off.

If you saw a bouncy house on the street on Saturday...
Saturday - 2:15 pm
A 34/m says an large inflatable bouncy house (which was not inflated) fell off the back of a delivery truck “somewhere in the greater Wichita area…”

Late for work…
Saturday - 3:17 pm
Someone called police after finding a four-year-old boy unattended. Police say the child’s stepmother left him home alone. The boy got out and ventured nearly a quarter-mile from his home. The stepmother admitted leaving the child because she was late for work. She was arrested. The child was released to another parent.
