Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Skipped on the tab…
A 27/f who works for a business in the 2300 block of S. Oliver says a man came in and ordered two drinks. He then walked out without paying the tab. He was arrested.
A 70/m says someone called him claiming to be with the IRS. The caller told him that he “misrepresented himself” when he filed his taxes between 2008 and 2013 and that he owed $3,650. The caller said he had to pay it with a Green Dot Card or there would be a warrant issued for his arrest. He told the caller that he couldn’t pay the full amount, but he could pay $700. While on his way to get the money, he thought it was a scam - so he called police.
Burnt apartment looted…
A 50/m reports someone took copper piping, wiring and coils from several apartments in the 2700 block of S. Emporia. Parts of that apartment building were destroyed by fire recently.
A 35/f says someone came into her place of business in the 1200 block of E. Douglas. The guy took her wallet out of her purse, which was on her desk, then walked out. Her co-worker got a better look at the guy and was expected to call with a better description.
A 25/f says someone called and told her to send a Money Pak Card with $300 to them. The caller said they would add a zero (for $3,000) and send it back. She could then keep $2,100 and send back $900. She is now out that $300 and his number is no longer in service.
Getting outta here…
A 54/f says her daughter had someone come to her car window and bang on it. The guy then reached toward the pocket - but the daughter left the area. She is afraid he was trying to steal her car. SHe is also concerned that it could be related to someone she testified against recently.
A 63/f reports three people not paying for a room in the 5800 block of W. Kellogg. The three also took stuff from the room and one of them used stolen identification to rent the room.
A 38/m reports someone shoplifting from a store in the 2100 block of S. Broadway. The man tried to keep the shoplifter from leaving, but wound up in a physical confrontation. One of them (it appears from the report that it was the employee, but it could be the shoplifter) suffered a minor scrape on the arm. Neither needed medical attention. The shoplifter was arrested for theft and battery, and possession of cocaine.
A 41/f reports someone pulling up in a car in the 3200 block of E. Grand and trying to call children to his car. He said he needed to talk to them and asked if they wanted any candy. None of the kids approached the vehicle.
