Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Pain at the pump…

A 21/f who works for a gas station in the 4800 block of S. Hydraulic says a driver pumped gas and drove off without paying. Three people were in the car at the time. Police tracked them down. Two of them were arrested for stealing gas. The third was booked for driving on a suspended license.

Didn’t fall for it…
7:24 am
A 93/f says she received a call from her daughter’s phone, but the person on the other line was not her daughter. The person who called (not stated whether male or female) asked her for her credit card information. She doesn’t have a credit card and her daughter knows that. She didn’t give the caller any information, but has not been able to get a hold of her daughter, either.

The bird…
8:54 am
A 23/f says someone passed her home in the 1000 block of N. Terrace. The man acted hostile and flipped her off. She was inside her home at the time and observed the behavior through a window. She is concerned because she is nine months pregnant and the person is unstable and unpredictable. The report does not say how she knows the person.

Armed robbery…
8:56 pm
A 74/m says someone came into his business in the 800 block of S. Woodlawn and put a gun to his head. The guy demanded money, which he got. The thief then took off in a car. No one was hurt.

Stolen mail…
9:23 am
A 56/f says she returned to her home in the 2400 block of N. High Point after being out of town for a few days. She was surprised that her mailbox was empty, she figured she should have at least some mail after being gone. She said several other neighbors’ mailboxes were open.

Shovel…
11:45 am
A 16/m says his dad tried to hit him with a shovel. The dad was arrested.

Car burglary at the Keeper…
11:56 am
A 53/m says he was at the Keeper of the Plains when his car was broken into in a parking lot in the 600 block of N. Seneca. The thief broke out a back window and stole his wife’s property (presumably her purse).

Abuse…
Noon
An officer reports finding a child (whose age is not listed) with a bruise on his left cheek and left backside. He said he was whipped with a fishing pole for stealing gum from the store. An officer was told that the child’s mother had her boyfriend strike the child because she’s not allowed to hit the kids. The officer was also told that another child in the home had pain and blood in his ear from where the mother had removed a bug. The second child was taken to the hospital and was cleared. Both children, and two others, were taken into protective custody. The report does not state whether anyone was arrested.

Stolen files…

A business in the 1400 block of W. 31st S. says a person who was terminated took patient files and business files without permission and refuses to return them.

More pain at the pump…
1:39 pm
A 28/m who works for a gas station in the 3200 block of S. Seneca says a customer left his drivers license at the window while pumping gas on Sunday. He then tried to pay with a check, which would not go through. He told the guy he could come back and pay up until the following morning. The morning came and went, and he hasn’t been able to get a hold of the guy.

Boat full of trash…
2:37 pm
A 70/m says someone dumped a boat filled with trash on his property in the 900 block of E. Morris. He says the boat doesn’t have any identifying features. He has no idea who it belongs to.

Missing rifle…
4:40 pm
A 56/m says two employees for a moving company packed up his home in the 1000 block of N. Ridge so he could move out of state. He says he had a rifle under the bed, which was moved - but didn’t make it to his new home. He says the two employees are the only ones who would have had access to the rifle and believes they stole it.

No more bounce…
4:50 pm
A 38/f who lives in the 2600 block of S. Jewett says someone stole the trampoline from her backyard. She has no idea who did it.

Shop(lift)ing cart…
5:04 pm
A 29/m, who works loss prevention for a business in the 1900 block of W. 21st N., says someone stole property from the store. The thief then struck the worker with a shopping cart. The worker wasn’t hurt, but the shoplifter was arrested for shoplifting and battery.

Cocaine…
5:43 pm
An officer reports being contacted by a representative from the Department of Children and Families about an infant who needed to be placed in protective custody. Police found the parent who admitted to using cocaine. The parent’s other children are already in state custody. The infant was transported to the Wichita Children’s Home.

Aggravated Battery…
11:33 pm
A 20/f says someone (the report does not state whether she knows the person) intentionally struck her in the rear left leg and buttock area with a car while she was running away from someone else in the 5700 block of E. Harry. The person then got out of the car and used a stun gun on her right side and kicked her in the mouth. She was not seriously hurt. A felony warrant was issued for the attacker.
