Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Too drunk…
5:00 am
A 32/m says someone tried to buy merchandise from a business in the 6400 block of W. Kellogg with a credit card and driver’s license belonging to someone else. Police contacted the person the card belongs to, but that person was too drunk to communicate whether he’d given permission to use the card. The card and DL were given back to the owner.

Copper wire stolen…
8:15 am
A 27/m reported that someone stole rolls of wire from an unsecured construction site in the 3900 block of S. Meridian. The value of those rolls is listed at more than $1,000.

Altered checks…
9:56 am
A 44/m says he put two checks in the mail at the post office at 31st S. and Seneca. Someone removed them, altered them and cashed them.

Wheels stolen…
10:32 am
A 37/m reports someone coming into a lot in the 8200 block of W. Kellogg and stealing all four wheels and tires off of one of the vehicles. No idea who did it.

Contractor fraud…
11:00 am
A 41/f says she paid a contractor to do some foundation concrete work, but the guy never returned to complete the job.

They were supposed to take the mower…
11:54 am
Someone called police to report letting two people into her garage to take a lawn mower, instead, they took a washing machine that belongs to someone else.

Fire extinguishers stolen…
12:56 pm
A 37/f says someone stole seven fire extinguishers from various common areas at a business in the 200 block of N. Rock Road (presumably Stratford East Apartments). Three empty extinguishers were found in the courtyard. No arrests.

Burglary witnessed…
12:58 pm
An eyewitness reports seeing five people burglarizing a home in the 1000 block of E. MacArthur, which belongs to a 62/m. They then left in a car. Police found them and returned most of the stolen property to the owner. They did not return a shotgun, which was “illegal”. Police found meth in the thieves’ car. They were arrested on several charges.

School worker bitten…
1:00 pm
A 29/m says two students got into a fight at a school in the 700 block of W. 33rd S. (South High). While trying to separate the two, the man was bitten on the finger. Parents of the students were notified and the two students were arrested.

Protective custody…
3:06 pm
Someone called police to check the welfare of two youngsters after one of them wasn’t in school. Police say one of the students was without his medication for four days. The officers report seeing sub-par living conditions and minimal food in the home. The Department of Children and Family’s Rapid Response team was brought in. The two juveniles were taken into protective custody.
