Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Gun left behind…
7:58 am
A 54/f says she was checking out of a hotel in the 3100 block of N. Webb the previous day, then realizing she’d left her gun in the room. She contacted the hotel, but was told that no one turned in the gun and the room was already re-occupied. She was not able to talk to the head of housekeeping to see if they knew anything about it. She says the gun was left on a shelf and was not easily noticeable. She said the gun was loaded.

Grandmother concern…
10:47 am
A 69/f called police to report that her son is mentally uneasy and she is concerned about his five-year-old son (her grandson). Police checked on the man and found him to be mentally fit, though a bit odd. Police determined he was no harm to himself or others.

Lock cut…
12:00 pm
A 65/f says someone cut the lock on her shed in the 600 block of N. Glendale and took some of her property. She isn’t sure who did it.

No time…
12:42 pm
A 24/f says she lost her wallet while she was having dinner with friends in the 6100 block of E. 21st N. She called the restaurant, but they didn’t have time to look over surveillance video. Police sent her an identity theft packet, just in case.

Mail theft…
1:32 pm
A 48/f reports someone getting into her mailbox and stealing her mail. A lady out walking found her mail spread out along the road about a mile away. No idea who did it...or if anything was stolen from the mail. (Note: This is one of several mail thefts on today’s crime sheet.)

Doze and dash…
1:45 pm
A 36/f reports someone leaving her lodging facility (hotel, motel? The report doesn’t say specifically.) in the 3100 block of N. Webb without paying for the room.

Last thing she needs is a fight…
1:50 pm
A 21/f says she had an old friend stay the night with her so they could catch up on old times. Since then, the friend has called several times accusing her of stealing money. She’s also threatened to come over to her house and fight her if she doesn’t get her money back. The woman is worried because she’s joining the army later this month and she’s afraid that getting in a fight would hurt her chances of serving.

2:09 pm
A 65/m says his neighbors have been setting off fireworks - even after he asked them to stop. He told them he has PTSD and the fireworks are very upsetting. The neighbor and his wife told him they’re doing the fireworks to “honor” him. He didn’t see it that way and said that the fireworks were upsetting and disturbing his peace. He says this has been going on for like, three days.

Okay, you got me…
6:11 pm
A 26/m who works for a store in the 600 block of N. West says he saw someone steal merchandise from the store. He followed the thief out of the store and asked him to return inside so they could handle the matter. The thief gave back the stuff, but refused to give any personal information and then left the store. The employee will call back with a description and surveillance video of the incident.

Sick dog…
6:30 pm
A 43/f called police and said that her dog threw up after ingesting something that was in her yard in the 14300 block of W. Valley Hi. She doesn’t know what the substance was or who put it there.

Stop Hammertime…
7:04 pm
A 57/m says his neighbor hit his door with a hammer in the 700 block of S. Hunter. He says the strike caused some damage to the door. Police were not able to locate the neighbor.

Grasskiller…
7:11 pm
A 44/f reports someone - possibly her ex-husband - egging her house in the 2100 block of S. Milstead. She says someone also poured grass killer on her yard in the form of a “design” (she said it was either a "penis" or a "middle finger", she couldn't quite tell). She says all this happened while she was out of town.

Don’t mind me...
7:56 pm
A 25/m says he found someone in his store in the 3300 block of E. Central drinking beer and eating beef jerky. The lady had no proof he purchased the items. She then picked up her prescription and left without paying. As she was leaving, she threw a blood pressure device to the ground.

Burn…
11:30 pm
A 63/f says her son (age not listed) was using a lighter to catch some computer equipment on fire. She also found burn marks on a shelf in his closet. The boy was taken to juvie on aggravated arson charges.
