Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Hit with a brick…
1:20 am
A 21/f called police saying that someone threw a brick at someone else in the 1600 block of W. Dallas, hitting that person in the arm, possibly breaking it. The woman took the injured person to the hospital, but that person refused to make a report and would not allow police to take pictures of the injury. Police say there is no evidence of a relationship between the two people involved.

I said “borrow”...
7:06 am
A 56/f says she loaned someone her car so he could go to court on Monday. He didn’t return the car afterward. She says she talked with him that evening and he said he would pick her up from work, but he never showed up. He also hasn’t answered his phone.

Gaming machines burglarized…
7:16 am
A 69/m says someone burglarized his business in the 2200 block of S. Seneca. The intruder broke into ten gaming machines and stole property (likely cash). The machines were also damaged in the burglary. He thinks the thief hid in the store at closing, then left through the side door.

You can’t apply for passports online…
9:18 am
A 63/f says she applied for a passport online - but later realized the website was fake. She says someone tried to withdraw money from her account, but the bank contacted her before they approved it. She didn’t suffer any loss, but she did report the case to the Federal Trade Commission, as well.

Wallet stolen…
10:30 am
A 30/f says she was at an appointment at a government office in the 3400 block of S. Ida when she had to leave for a moment to take her child to the restroom. When she returned, her wallet was missing from the desktop. No idea who took it.

We’re new to this neighborhood...
12:14 pm
A 40/m says he moved into the 300 block of N. Green a few days ago, but since then, his neighbor’s dog has been barking inside and outside - non-stop. He says he can hear the dog inside his home.

That’s rude…
12:58 pm
A 70/m reports getting a phone call from a security company offering to provide his family with service. His wife told the man that she was happy with their current service and reminded the caller that they are on the “No Call” list. At that point, the caller started saying “blah blah blah…” The case is listed as a “disorderly conduct” call.

Buying it back…
1:24 pm
A 40/f reports finding her ring that was stolen from her home at a pawn shop. She bought the ring back from the pawn shop. She says the pawn shop has video of the person who sold it to them.

Threatening customer…
3:25 pm
A 38/m reports being threatened by an irate customer in the 4700 block of E. Central. He says the man said “I hope you guys all like your windows…” as he was leaving the store. He took that as a threat against vehicle and/or store windows.

Gross…
6:08 pm
An officer reports someone throwing cigarette ashes all over a 64/m in the 9700 block of W. Bella. The man was not hurt, but the person who threw the ashes was arrested.

Cat in a pillowcase…
7:27 pm
A 32/f says she found a pillowcase that had the top tied off in a knot laying in the middle of the street in the 5100 block of E. New Jersey. Someone cut open the pillowcase and found an adult cat inside. Animal control was called in to retrieve the animal. Note: The report does not specifically state that the cat is alive, but it is implied.

Police chase…
7:46 pm
An officer reports the driver of a stolen vehicle leading police on a chase. The driver went into an open field (which was wet), then swerved into a cop car, then drove toward another patrol car. At one point, a window was broken with a handgun (unknown if it was the driver or an officer’s gun, but the gun itself struck a window, no shots were fired). The man was arrested and taken to the hospital.

Burglarized…
11:47 pm
A 23/m says two people came to his home in the 600 block of E. 15th N. They pushed their way in as he opened the door. He says the two people took things from his home, then left in a vehicle. He says one of them had a black revolver in his waistband. He didn’t pull it out, but he did lift his shirt and reference it several times causing him to be in fear for his life. No injuries.
