Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

A 52/m say she was confronted by a man wielding a crutch and demanding money. He says the guy hit him four times with that crutch and he finally surrendered the cash. He went to the hospital for treatment of some lacerations to his forearm and shin. Police are still looking for the robber, who left the area on foot.
Car thief confronted…
A 34/m was attacked after confronting a man who was inside his car in the 3000 block of S. Hillside. The unwelcome guest damaged the guy’s car stereo and stole property from the car. Police arrested him. The car owner was not hurt.
A 22/m says someone broke out a window of a business in the 4400 block of W. Douglas and struck an employee in the forehead. The attacker also threw a full water bottle at the employee, striking him in the head. A second person joined in the fight and attacked the employee. The first guy then started throwing rocks at a car belonging to the business, causing damage. No serious injuries were reported. Both assailants were arrested.
School employee battered…
A 31/m says a student battered him while at a school in the 900 block of S. Edgemoor (Southeast High School). The student was suspended and has a pending expulsion hearing. The employee was not hurt.
Middle Schooler w/ booze…
A 30/f reports a student in possession of and consuming alcohol on school property in the 3900 block of E. 27th (Brooks Middle Magnet). She says she didn’t witness the student drinking. The student’s parent was contacted. The student was then arrested and booked into juvie.
A passerby noticed a 3-year-old girl left in an unattended non-running car. Cops forced a front window down enough to unlock the door and get the girl out. She was not hurt. Police made contact with the mother, who was in a store (the location of the incident is not listed). The girl was released to her mother.
Trying to take a walk…
A 69/m says someone was yelling and swearing at him while he was trying to take a walk in the 2600 block of W. 9th N. He says the incident made him upset and offended. Police arrested the offender, who apparently had past run-ins with the law.
A 45/m says he invited someone to his home in the 1500 block of N. Chautauqua. He says he’d been drinking. He said he took his teeth out and fell asleep. When he got up, the woman had left and his teeth were missing.
Break it up...
An officer reports trying to break up a disturbance between four people in the 4100 block of W. Kellogg. All four were booked on various charges, including resisting arrest. One of them was a minor and was booked for underage drinking.
A 23/m says someone fired shots at him and five others in the 2700 block of N. Arkansas. He says the shots were fired from a white Ford Crown Victoria, and the shooters left southbound. Two of them were struck, one in the left foot, the other in the right calf. Several 9mm rounds were found in front of the home, which had some bullet holes. Another person’s car also had a few bullet holes. The two who were hurt are expected to be okay.
Only making it worse…
A 36/f WPD officer says she tried to arrest someone for DUI in the 1100 block of W. Haskell. The driver refused to take a blood alcohol test, even an hour later. During the incident, the driver spit on the officer. The driver was arrested for DUI and for battery of a law enforcement officer.
A 31/m employee of a school in the 1200 block of W. 25th N. (Cloud Elementary) says someone wrote cuss words on a door on the west side of the building. There was no permanent damage and no word on who did it.
A 38/f reports seeing two children playing next to the street completely nude and unsupervised. Cops came out and contacted the mother, who was asleep at the time. The two, and a third child, were left in the mother’s care. The address of the incident is not listed.
What does it mean?
A 36/m says two tires on his car were slashed and “13SUR” was carved into the paint. It happened in the 2500 block of S. Ellis. A neighbor alerted him to the problem after hearing hissing sounds coming from the car.
And...while the cops were there…
The officer who responded to the above case heard screaming and glass breaking. The officer found a woman who was bleeding because she’d broken a window to a home nearby. While police were trying to contact the homeowner, the woman thought they were taking too long and threw her phone, striking an officer on the foot, then tried to kick the window out of the patrol car, then kicked another officer in the feet while being held down. No one was hurt. She was booked on several charges.
A 61/m reports the main copper tubes to the outside A/C units were stolen in the 1800 block of S. Spruce.
Lemme beat you up…
A 60/m reports someone throwing coins and then a larger item (unknown what it was) at his car while he was driving near Pawnee and Rock. The person yelled at him to pull over so he could beat him up. No injuries.
A 15/f says she was walking toward a car in the 1300 block of S. Main to talk to someone. She went around to the passenger side and put her arm in the window while talking to him. At that point, the guy drove off with her still holding onto the car door. She was dragged about a half block before she let go. Police are still looking for the driver. The girl was taken to the hospital for treatment of cuts to her arm and hip.
