GARDEN CITY, Kan. -

A Garden City woman has been arrested, accused of beating an elderly woman who offered to give the suspect a ride.

Police said the 76-year-old woman was approached in a Dillons parking lot by another woman last month. The suspect asked the driver for a ride to a northern part of the city. When the victim stopped the car, the suspect hit the driver in the head with a grocery bag containing several cans of food.

The suspect grabbed the woman's purse, and ran away, police said.

Capt. Michael Reagle, Garden City Police, said the stolen checks, written at a local business, led officers to a person of interest March 28. Police arrested Candice Craig, 31, and booked her in to the Finney County Jail on allegations of aggravated robbery, four counts of forgery, and drug-related charges.

Police said two men were at Craig's home during the investigation, and arrested after a search warrant. Michael Ayers was arrested and booked in to jail on possession of methamphetamine.  James Chambers was arrested and lodged in the Finney County Jail on allegations of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
