WICHITA, Kan. -

A man made his first appearance in court today accused of brutally beating his mother.

Glen Fishburn, 53, appeared in Sedgwick County Court on Monday and was charged with attempted first degree murder.

Police were called to the home in the 2600 block of S. West St. around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3. Emergency crews found an 86-year-old woman suffering from multiple injuries.

Investigators said the woman was beaten with a bat, and cut with a dull machete, after she confronted his son about his drinking. She was taken to a nearby hospital with several broken bones and lacerations.

Officers arrested Fishburn,  the woman's son. He was booked into the Sedgwick County Detention Facility on two counts of aggravated battery.

Fishburn is being held on a $75,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is set for April 22.

Crews responded to the scene in the 2600 block of S. West St. around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. They found a woman in her 80s with several broken bones and lacerations.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Details of the incident remain unclear at this time, but one person has been taken into custody.
