ELLIS COUNTY, Kan. -

A woman is hospitalized after a crash in Ellis County Tuesday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says it happened at around 8:20 on I-70 just west of Hays.

26-year-old Misty Dawn Schartz of Ellis was driving on I-70 when a semi, driven by a 61-year-old man from Oklahoma City, pulled into the driving lane after accelerating on the shoulder.

Schartz' vehicle struck the semi from behind. She was taken to the hospital for treatment. KHP says she told them her seat belt saved her life (See Tweet from KHP's Trooper Tod below).

The man driving the semi was not hurt.
