WICHITA, Kan. -

A woman who gave birth to a premature baby, then walked out of the hospital against medical advice, has been found.

The woman known as "Hannah O'Conner" gave birth to a baby at St. Joseph Hospital Monday. She left the next day, leaving the boy, born at 32 weeks, in the NICU. The boy is in police protective custody, but doing well.

Authorities said the Safe Haven law applies in this case.

Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police, said in an email, "We don’t expect there to be any prosecution for leaving the child at a safe location.”

Nolte said late Thursday officers were able to identify the woman because of the public's assistance.

"Her health and well-being are fine," Nolte said. "We want to thank the public for their concern and help."
