2012: The passenger cruise ship Costa Concordia strikes a rock and runs aground off the shore of the Italian island of Giglio. As the ship began taking on water, it turned on its side and was evacuated over the course of six hours. One of the deadliest disasters in recent history, the accident took the lives of 32 people from eight countries. The wreck was uprighted on Sept. 17, 2013, and refloated and towed to Genoa, Italy, in July 2014.
