Kansas mother remembers life at Connecticut school
December 14, 2012
A Hesston mother remembers when her son wrote a note about this school 12 years old.
"My name is Tucker Schmidt, I go to Sandy Hook elementary school," reads Fawn Schmidt.
Schmidt, her husband and her four grown children are from Kansas, but 15 years ago her husband's work took the entire family to Newtown, Connecticut.
"A nice community to raise your kids in, strong schools, um they all had their issues like any community but our oldest 2 graduated high school there," says Schmidt.
This is why Schmidt says what happened Friday really touched her heart.
"That was our world for so many years, I was the PTA president there one year," she remembers. "The teachers were awesome at that elementary school and the kids had a wonderful experience there"
Schmidt, her husband and their youngest son are all planning to move back to Connecticut. In the meanwhile, she says all she can do is wait and pray that no one she knows died in this tragedy.
"It makes you appreciate today and the people you have in your life and you want to just hold them close and hug them and tell them you love them because you don't know when you are going to end up with something like this," she says.
