Imagine finding out the man working next to you, in the same position, makes $20,000 more. Research done by 24/7 Wall St. shows that's happening in Wichita.  Wichita made national headlines for being one of the worst paying cities for women in the country.

Wichita sits at number seven on the list, claiming women in town make on average about 30% less than men. The research blames the aviation industry, saying at places like Cessna, Bombardier and Beechcraft women make about $28,471 compared to their male counterparts who make about $46,804.

Some call it discrimination, while others call it an old fashioned mindset. We wondered if the list made Wichita look bad so we asked someone at the Chamber of Commerce. He chose not to comment. Some people we talked with say it is not about the city, it is about the employers.

We called Bombardier and Cessna for a comment on the claims, but our calls went unanswered. A spokesperson at Beechcraft referred us to a union that represents a portion of its employees. The union says the employees it represents are paid equally based on qualifications.
