Lots of kids play outside in the 1700 block of S. Yale and they cannot stop talking about what kept many of them up all night.

"They didn't know what to think. They've never heard guns ring out like that," said Jarus Pore.

Around 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Wichita Police say a fight broke out during a party and people started shooting. Neighbors heard nearly a dozen gun shots.

"We looked out the window and saw people running, my roommate opened the door, my dogs bolted and I went into parent mode and chased after my dogs through at least, it looked like 50 people running out of the house," said Aaron Davis.

"It concerns me very much and it's kind of scary," said Pore.

Pore's kids could not sleep after what they heard. Now, he is worried about how to keep them safe.

"I want the neighborhood to change some, not allow people like that to have things that are illegal," said Pore.

It is a concern many neighbors have.

"I don't have kids, so these (dogs) are the closest thing I've got. I didn't want to lose them," said Davis.

A man at the party was shot and driven to a local hospital to be treated. Three cars around the house were damaged by gunfire.

"They have a party about every other week, but last night was the first night anything like that happened," said Pore.

He and Davis hope it's the last time. Davis believes in the right to bear arms, but feels this was irresponsible ownership.

"Criminals are always going to be able to get their hands on guns. It leaves the regular citizens open to things like gunfire like that," said Davis. Parents on Yale Street say all they want is for their kids to feel safe to play.

Police are looking for two suspects in the shooting and no arrests have been made.
