It was too early for the sunrise, but a swig of coffee and thoughts of a conference title got Shocker fans on the move at 5:30 a.m. Saturday.

"It wasn't our choice to get up so early, but I guess to get to the game we need to get up and get going because it's a little bit of a ride," Valerie Dettweiler said.

Fan Sharon Dir said she's never taken a bus trip before.

"Just kind of out of the blue it was like let's just go do it," she said. "It sounded like fun."

The two fans joined dozens of Wichita State alumni on a bus headed for Omaha early Saturday morning.

Fans were confident about the Shocker's chances.

"It's so much fun to go watch the Shockers beat Creighton today," Sherry Berger said.

Others said it would be a tough game.

"I think WSU has a lot of work cut out for them but I still think that they can pull the energy up and take it home," Dettweiler said.

Even through sleepy eyes, Shocker fans on the bus were dreaming of a victory.

"It's been a super year," Bob Dir said. "It really has. We have a great coach and a great bunch of players that their hearts really into this. So we look forward to it."
