If you ask many Kansans about where they like to go for fried chicken, the Brookville Hotel often comes up. I've heard about it since living in Kansas, and one time made the mistake of driving to Brookville for dinner. I found there's no longer a restaurant there, just an old empty building. Seven yars ago the restaurant relocated to Abilene after having sewer issues in Brookville.
When the owners decided to move, they were determined to give you a similar dining experience. They built a replica restaurant, so it seems like you're eating in the same dining rooms they had in 1915.
Our trip to the restaurant took an hour and 20 minutes. It's 87 miles from Wichita. We took I-135 to Newton, then K-15 which turned into K-56 for a little while and back to K-15 to arrive in Abilene.
Reservations are recommended if you on the weekend. It costs $13.50 for adults, $7.95 for children under 12, and $3.00 for children under 3.
Also in Abilene, visit the other Wonders of Kansas contestant the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum.
