A man posing as a police officer and cashing fake checks may be in western Kansas.  The Kansas Bureau of Investigation and Garden City Police put out an alert about Robert Helms Tuesday.

The KBI says Helms has recently been seen driving a maroon minivan in the western part of the state.

He's tried to cash bad checks at least 23 times since the start of the year.  The most recent were Russell and Scott City.  He's also been spotted in Belle Plaine, the Winfield/Ark City area, Wellington, Mulvane, Kingman, Anthony, Girard, Pratt, Ulysses, Louisburg, Garnett, Phillipsburg, Smith Center, Beloit, Sabetha, Lyons and Hugoton.

If you see Helms call 911.
