Salina residents aren't happy that a vehicle bridge is shutting down. On Friday, the City of Salina closed the Greeley Avenue bridge over the old Smoky Hill River Channel.
First opened in the 1960's, the bridge has a weight limit of 5 tons. The city says the bridge can no longer hold the weight limit required to remain open to vehicles.
The bridge connects a residential and commercial area to the fairgrounds and Bicentennial Center. Right now, about 938 vehicles use the bridge each day.
There are four other bridges drivers can use to cross the river.
A pedestrian bridge will be constructed for people to cross Greeley Avenue next year.
