The Saline County Sheriff says a missing man is most likely dead, and a suspect has been arrested in connection to his disappearance.

Investigators tell our news partners at The Salina Journal 37-year-old Jeffrey Powell had not been since earlier this week. A joint investigation by the Saline County Sheriff's Department and Salina Police determined Powell is most likely dead as a result of foul play that happened late Tuesday east of the Salina city limits on North Street.

Officers arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection to the case. Sheriff Glen Kochanowski tells the Journal that the suspect had been in custody in Lincoln County on unrelated charges, and was brought to Saline County and booked Thursday night. He says evidence at the scene indicates intentional murder, but not premeditation. Investigators have not said how they believe Powell was killed, or if any other arrests are suspected.

Investigators say Powell's body has not been located. Anyone with information in the case should call Salina Police at (785)826-7210 or the Saline County Sheriff's Office at (785)826-6500.
