Two people die in two separate crashes on Kansas highways during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The first crash happened just before noon Thursday on I-70 one mile east of Junction City. That is in Geary County. The Kansas Highway Patrol says John Kaneaster of Abilene was driving westbound on I-70 when he crossed the median, on-coming traffic and went into a ditch. His pick-up hit a tree and rolled on its top. Kaneaster was taken to a hospital where he died. A 13-year-old riding with him was hurt.

The second crash happened just before 8:00 Thursday night in Haskell County. The KHP says Crystal Lou Dillon of Dodge City was driving on K-144 when she went left of center, over-corrected and rolled her car. Dillon was thrown from the car and died at the scene. Two other people riding with her were hurt, one was flown to a Wichita hospital for treatment.

State troopers handed our more than 1,500 speeding tickets between Wednesday and Sunday. They also gave out 349 seat belt tickets to adults. Troopers assisted more than 1,300 drivers in need of assistance.
