Don Rounds has been getting lunch from Meals on Wheels in McPherson since November. "It's a real benefit for myself, as a care taker for my wife that I am able to have a meal and I don't have to do a whole lot to prepare it," Rounds said.
McPherson's Aging Projects provides food for seniors with Meals on Wheels and their Friendship Meals program.
"It is just a good fit for allowing people to remain independent as they age and to age with dignity," Aging Projects executive director Rozie O'Brien said.
O'Brien worries that efforts to balance the federal budget would come at the expense of programs such as Aging Projects.
"If this cut comes in March, we will have to shut down meal sights," O'Brien said. "We have no choice."
It would be hard for seniors who rely on the program.
"It would be a great deal of difficulty to have to prepare that meal at noon, because it takes time to make a beneficial meal, a meal of nutrition." Rounds said. "It would be a detriment to have it cut."
