A renewable energy advocacy group is circulating a petition, hoping to get four lawmakers to change their views on tax credits. The non-profit Climate and Energy Project is trying to gather 5,000 signatures.
The petition urges four Kansas Representatives, Tim Huelskamp, Mike Pompeo, Kevin Yoder and Lynn Jenkins, to support extending a tax credit for wind energy production.
The signature drive started after Siemens announced plans to lay off more than half of its workforce at its Hutchinson plant, according to a spokesperson for the Climate and Energy Project. Siemens cited the uncertain future of the tax credit when the layoffs were announced.
