On Jan. 13, the Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia partially sank after hitting a reef off the Italian coast and ran aground at Isola del Giglio, near Tuscany.  Of the 4,252 people on board, 30 are known to have died in the incident, two were still missing as of October and 64 sustained mild to serious injuries. Captain Francesco Schettino was arrested and faces preliminary charges of multiple manslaughter in connection with causing a shipwreck, failing to assist 300 passengers and failing to be the last to leave the wreck.
