Mittelstaedt goes for cycle; Wingnuts lose

T.J. Mittelstaedt claimed the second cycle in the last week for the Wichita Wingnuts, but they fell a run short, 13-12, to the Joplin Blasters Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Cole Hamels allowed one unearned run in 5 1/3 innings, Nomar Mazara and Adrian Beltre homered and the Texas Rangers defeated the Kansas City Royals 7-4 on Saturday night.

T.J. Mittelstaedt hit his ninth home run of the season to lead the offense in putting up six runs. However, the pitching was unable to hold a lead.

Danny Duffy scattered four hits while pitching into the seventh inning, the Royals scratched out three runs off the Rangers' Yu Darvish, and Kansas City beat Texas 3-1 on Friday night to open their three-game series.

Wichita area football coaches are threatening to close their doors to any KJCCC school that votes to allow ten more roster spots to out-of-state students.
