The No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft was introduced with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday afternoon. But it didn't start off smoothly.
The Cavs play-by-play announcer Fred McLeod announced him as "Mitchell Wiggins", Andrew's dad, as he brought him to the podium. McLeod quickly corrected himself but blamed it on the fact that he and Mitchell Wiggins go way back.
Even though he has always worn 22, Wiggins held up a jersey with the No. 21. No. 22 belonged to Larry Nance, a former college teammate of Mitchell Wiggins. And now hangs in the rafters of Quicken Loans Arena.
The reality has finally set in for Andrew and he already has high expectations.
"I hope to come in and create an impact right off the bat both offensively and defensively," he said. "I just want to be a good teammate and good part of the organization. I want to be on the all-defensive team, rookie of the year and the all-star team, you know, all that stuff."
