Detroit Tigers outfielder Andy Dirks will have back surgery and the team expects him to miss about 12 weeks.
The Hutchinson native and former Shocker was set to start in left field for the Tigers in 2014.
"I certainly feel bad for Andy. I think Andy was looking forward to this year, and I've been in his shoes with the exact same surgery," Tiger manager Brad Ausmus said to mlb.com. "It can be a long three months of not playing for your team, and the first three weeks of not being able to do anything at all, it can bring your spirits down."
