Quint Kessenich: What to Watch For in the Face-Off Classic

The Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic isn't just bringing some of the best teams in men's college lacrosse to M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday.

It's also bringing some of the hottest storylines in the sport. For starters we have North Carolina, which fell to winless Penn on Tuesday for its second loss in a row after opening the season at No. 6.

In the feature game, Cornell won't have one of the best players in the nation, attackman Rob Pannell, who broke his left foot Saturday. So how will the Big Red offense fare against defending national champion Virginia?

And the nightcap just received a huge jolt as UMBC issued a wake-up call to Johns Hopkins with its stunning fourth-quarter comeback win Tuesday against No. 5 Maryland.

Here's what to watch for at what could be the biggest showcase of the regular season:

The Tar Heels were shocked by Penn, 10-6, on Tuesday and have now lost two straight. Coach Joe Breschi acknowledged to me Wednesday: "We are not where we want to be. But we will get better." Meanwhile, the Tigers are coming off a loss to No. 2 Johns Hopkins.
