Wichita State first baseman Casey Gillaspie has been named a first-team preseason All-American by Baseball America. Here is the release from the university:
Wichita State baseball student-athlete Casey Gillaspie has been named a first team preseason All-American by Baseball America.
Gillaspie, a junior first baseman from Omaha, Neb., hit .299 with 49 runs, 70 hits, 16 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, 46 RBI and 62 walks last season. He earned second team all-Valley honors and was named to the Valley all-defense team.
Last summer, he was named an All-Star in the Cape Cod League and led the Cape in home runs. This season, he was named a first team preseason All-American by Collegiate Baseball and a second team preseason All-American by Perfect Game.
Gillaspie and the Shockers open the season on Fri., Feb. 14 against SIU Edwardsville at Eck Stadium at 3 p.m.
