Week 2 of football action brings more than a few games with league title implications. CatchItKansas has you covered to make sure you know the outcome of these match-ups.
GWAL
Southeast bounced back in a big way after last week’s 40-6 loss to Dodge City by taking down Kapaun Mt. Carmel 24-0. Carroll kept with the expectation of greatness by dominating North 55-0. Dodge City continued its win streak against the city league with a 31-14 win over Northwest. Heights held South to just six points in a 55-6 domination.
Thursday – West couldn’t back up last week’s overtime victory over South by falling to East 27-22.
AVCTL
Hutchinson stayed on track Friday by running past Campus 56-0. Salina South evened its record to 1-1 as it beat the Eagles of Maize 43-14. Salina Central took down Newton 27-13.
Ark City bounced back after last week’s loss by defeating Andover 16-0. The score was 2-0 at halftime and a combined 10 punts. Goddard cruised to a 22-7 victory over Valley Center. Derby again showed why it’s one of the top teams in 6A by stomping Andover Central 48-0. Mulvane essentially walked past Augusta 68-21. Winfield dominated Circle 42-14.
Buhler held Collegiate scoreless in the second half and overcame a 21-7 deficit to take down the Spartans 28-21. The Crusaders scored 21 unanswered points. Andale handed Rose Hill its second loss of the young season in a close one 28-23. Maize South can say it gave Eisenhower its first-ever football loss in a 41-0 beatdown. Concordia took down Wellington 52-20. El Dorado fell again 26-6 to Clearwater. The Wildcats were down just 7-0 at halftime. El Dorado's Travis House threw two interceptions at the end of the first half.
CPL
Bluestem came away with a solid win over Medicine Lodge 12-0. The Knight of Wichita Trinity beat the chocolate and gold from Belle Plaine in a 54-6 rout. Garden Plain showed why its considered one of the top teams in the state in a 49-17 bludgeoning of Chaparral. Cheney may have exposed Independent's true colors in a 22-7 win over the Panthers.
CKL
Halstead won a close one for the second week in a row. This time the Dragons took down the Lions of, you guessed it, Lyons 20-16. Hillsboro scored 20 points in the first half and went on to win 28-6 over Sterling. Hesston is off to a 0-2 start after its somewhat surprising 50-27 loss to Nickerson. Hesston jumped out to a 14-0 lead at half, but Nickerson scored 20 points in the third quarter and then 30 more in the fourth to come away winners. The Greenbacks of Pratt took care of business against Haven 32-6. Smoky Valley shutout Kingman 12-0.
WAC
Hays traveled to McPherson and delivered a 58-28 beat down on the Bullpups. Great Bend came away as 28-20 winners over Ulysses. Garden City beat Woodward (Okla.) 17-7. Liberal pulled out all the stops as it whitewashed Guymon (Okla.) 80-7.
Others
Speaking of high scores, West Elk shut out Yates Center 96-0. Salina Sacred Heart beat Republic County 77-6. Kinsley nearly doubled up on Wilson 70-38. LaCrosse cruised past Hoisington 34-12. Otis-Bison did work against the Oilers of Central Plains 40-14. Olpe squeaked out a 15-14 win over Wellsville. Sedgwick skipped past Marion to the tune of a 45-6 win. Pretty Prairie doubled up on Fairfield 60-30. Larned traveled to Ellinwood and brought with it a 29-14 win. Oxford dominated Norwich 58-0. Beloit beat up on the smaller Smith Center 54-0.
