The Augusta girls have won four games all season and were up against Wichita Trinity, the top seed in the Mulvane regional. All of those facts didn't matter to the Lady Orioles, who took down the Knights 45-31.
Augusta will play Wellington in the semifinals on Friday. Wellingotn beat Winfield 48-36.
Augusta (5-15) never let up in a game that they were not favored. They were hot from the field and led 24-22 at halftime. Trinity had a lot of trouble hitting shots on their own court.
The second half was much the same, Augusta busted out for a 6-0 run that gave them separation as the game went on. The lead began to widen, with Trinity pushing the ball harder and trying to get back in the game, but continued to fall short.
Augusta controlled the tempo and was able to take risks with three-pointers and fast breaks.
Augusta has now won two of its last three games. The one previous was against Collegiate.
Wichita Trinity ends the season at 15-6.
