Greg Slade has been named head football coach at Campus High School in Haysville. The former Rose Hill coach brings with him two state championship game apperances, and one state title.
When reached by telephone on Sunday night, Slade had no comment, but Campus Athletics Director Richard Elliot confirmed to CatchItKansas.com that Slade has been tabbed to lead the program starting this fall.
"We think it's a great hire," said Elliot. ""He carries a good pedigree coming in. He went to Rose Hill and turned it into a winning program."
Rose Hill Athletic Director Jim Linot has said the coaching position will be opened to a full search.
Slade led Rose Hill to championship game appearances in 2004 & 2011. The Rockets fell to Topeka Hayden 31-13 in 2004, before beating Eudora 21-0 in 2011.
But even with a state title, the highlight from his 15 years in Rose Hill wasn't on the field, but off.
"The kids coming back, showing where they've been, what they're doing. Seeing that they've gotten through school, and they're doing well," said Slade in reference to his greatest achievement.
The move for Slade is a bump up in classification, going from 4A to 6A, and also a jump in divisions. Rose Hill plays in Division 3 of the AV-CTL, while Campus plays in the Division 1.
"We have three or four teams every year that can be vying for a state championship. Teams that didn't win our league have won state championships," said Elliot. "He's not coming in with blinders on, he knows what's going on."
Slade led Rose Hill to a 4-6 record, including a first-round loss to Mulvane in the playoffs. Campus, who was led by Mike Schartz, finished 1-8.
