Wichita Northwest jumped on Wichita West in the first half, earning a 60-40 win over the Pioneers. Katie Cramer led the Grizzlies with 15 points and Calea Carr added 10. Jamisha Bonner from West led all scorers with 22 points as the Pioneers fell short.
In a matchup with two of the best teams in both the league, and the state, Wichita South avenged its only loss of the season with a 34-28 win over Kapaun Mt. Carmel. On December 4, South lost to Kapaun in its second game of the year, but has won every game since.
Wichita Heights flexed its might against Wichita North, beating the Redskins 66-23, and Bishop Carroll pulled away from Wichita East in a 68-54 win for the Golden Eagles.
AVCTL Div. I
At the top of the league standings, Maize is cruising through Div. I, and rolled over Hutchinson 62-33. In a battle of two teams chasing Maize, Newton overcame a slow start to dispatch Salina Central 43-31. Derby ousted Campus 51-25.
AVCTL Div. II
Andover was the scene of a pair of rivalry games in the Battle for Andover with Central setting the tone for the night with a 49-48 win over the Trojans. Andover had the ball and a look for the win but couldn’t get the shot to fall. Skyler Snodgrass led the Jaguars with 14 points and Jaylyn Agnew had 17 for Andover.
Goddard Eisenhower handled Arkansas City 64-35, and Maize South bead Goddard 39-22.
CKL
Pratt had a huge night, beating Nickerson 57-18. Jenson Maydew had 17 points for the Greenbacks, with Payton Hoeme chipping in 12.
Haven controlled Kingman in a 52-26 win, capping off a big week for the Wildcats after beating Hesston on Tuesday. Hailey Davis scored 14 points for Haven and Samantha Stallbaumer had 10.
Halstead won a low-scoring barnburner 26-20 over Smoky Valley, avenging a January 4 loss to the Vikings. Hesston rebounded from its loss earlier in the week with a 55-28 win over Sterling. Hillsboro continues to roll with a 63-38 win over Lyons.
CPL
Wichita Trinity survived a game Douglass squad with a 48-47 win over the Bulldogs. Kelli Henderson led the Knights with 12 points. Zoey Green carried the Bulldogs, leading all scorers with 19 points and Sarah Wright had 10 for Douglass. But Trinity had the one extra point to come away with the win.
Garden Plain had its way with Cheney, beating the Cardinals 54-34. Cassidy Haukap had 14 points for the Owls and Cadence Bourne had 11. Sydney Peitz scored 13 for Cheney in the losing effort.
Wichita Independent nipped Bluestem 49-42, and Conway Springs coasted against Belle Plaine, beating the Dragons 53-19.
HOA
Berean had a big night out of Xannie Quiring to beat Marion 42-26. Quiring lead all scorers with 20 points and was the only player from either team to reach double-digits.
Moundridge came out of a battle with Hutchinson Trinity victorious with a 40-33 win over the Celtics. Canton-Galva needed overtime to find a 1-point edge to beat Inman 41-40. Remington slipped by Sedgwick with a 39-37 win, and Ell-Saline beat Bennington 38-26.
Non-League
McPherson welcomed WAC opponent Dodge City to the Roundhouse, but weren’t gracious hosts, beating the Red Demons 67-39. Abby Pedersen exploded for 21 points for the Bullpups and Kately Loecker was close behind with 17. Janae Barnes contributed 12 points for McPherson. Katrina roenfeldt led Dodge City with 13 points and Alexis Sanchez had 11.
Valley Center was a game opponent, but Salina South earned a 73-33 victory over the Hornets. Winfield came away with a 37-30 win over an equally tough Augusta team. Mulvane squeaked out a 36-33 win over Wellington, while Andale had no such trouble with El Dorado, beating the Wildcats 41-24.
Clearwater bested Rose Hill 37-30.
Brittany Gleason had a 24-point game for Kinsley, but Spearville controlled the Coyotes in a 46-30 win for the Royal Lancers. Katie Rabe had 15 points for Spearville with Lindsey Heskamp and Rachel Slattery going for 10 points each.
