WICHITA, Kan.—
The St. John-Hudson girls defeated Wichita North, a 6A team, Maize South, a 5A team and lost in the championship of the Pratt Tournament in overtime to the now 6A No. 3 Wichita South Lady Titans by two points. With the outstanding performance this past week, the Lady Tigers hold on to the No. 3 ranking in 1A Div. I. St. John-Hudson will meet 1A Div. II No. 2 Norwich Tuesday at St. John-Hudson. It has been touted as the best girls’ game of the year.In the 4A boys, Andale is on an incredible hot streak, as the Indians have won 12 games in a row and have climbed to the No. 3 spot in the class. It was a rough bounce-back week for McPherson, after a home tournament championship, the Bullpups dropped a 45-44 loss to Circle, their second loss of the year. Semi Ojeleye and the Ottawa Cyclones are still No. 1 in 4A.
Wichita North fell just one spot to No. 3 in 6A despite a few games without Conner Frankamp and a bad loss to Wichita West last week. Derby and Garden City hold steady at No. 7 and 8, respectively. The Maize and Wichita South girls traded places, as the Lady Eagles of Maize took the No. 2 ranking and South moved to No. 3. Both teams won their respective tournaments last week.
The 5A girls’ rankings saw so much movement it may be hard to follow. St. Thomas Aquinas took the top spot after a No. 2 ranking last week and Mill Valley moved into No. 2 from No. 4. Bishop Miege moved from No. 10 to No. 3 and Newton fell one spot to No. 4. Kapaun Mt. Carmel went from the top ranking to No. 5. Salina South fell down one spot to No. 6. Andover went from No. 6 to No. 10 as Salina Central re-entered the top 10 at No. 9. Dizzying.
