Despite the loss of Conner Frankamp and a second place finish in the Dodge City Tournament of Champions last week, Wichita North moved up from No. 2 to No. 3 in this week’s rankings. The Redskins traded places with Shawnee Mission East, a team that lost to McPherson in the McPherson tournament. The Bullpups of McPherson moved into the No. 3 spot in 4A, behind No. 1 Ottawa and No. 2 Topeka Highland Park with the win.
The McPherson girls held steady at No. 3, as Holton and Wamego trade places at the top of the 4A girls’ ranks. The Lady Wildcats of Holton are now the No. 1 team in the class.
The Wichita South Lady Titans moved up one spot to the No. 2 ranking, as Olathe South became the No. 1 team in the class. Maize fell to No. 3 and Wichita Heights fell one spot to No. 6.
One change came in the 5A boys’ ranks as Andover Central took the No. 9 spot from Hays, a team that is no longer ranked. Shawnee Mission South kept its grasp on the top spot, as Goddard Eisenhower and Kapaun Mt. Carmel are ranked Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Two classes saw no change, the 3A girls and 1A Div. 1 boys. Every team stayed in the same rank as last week, from top to bottom. On the girls’ side, Burlington is No. 1 and Hillboro kept its No. 4 ranking. Haven is still No. 10. For the boys, St. John-Hudson kept its top ranking, as every other team didn’t budge.
The Scott City boys picked up a huge win over 6A No. 7 Derby last week to solidify even more its No. 1 ranking in 3A. The Beavers even took 6A No. 2 Wichita North to overtime in a loss.
